The difference between rat tail palm and white sandalwood

The difference between rat tail palm and white sandalwood

Morphological characteristics

The stem of the rat tail palm is thinner. The longer it grows, the more it hangs down to the ground. If left to grow in place, it can reach a length of two meters. Young rhizomes are mostly green, and the more mature they are, the more gray they become.

Sandalwood has many branches. It grows upright at the beginning and then crawls on the ground in the later stage. The stems of sandalwood are always light green.

Difference in flowering period

The flowering period of rat tail palm is from April to May. The flowers usually open during the day and close at night, and the color is a charming pink.

The flowers of sandalwood have many stamens and are bright red in color. They also open during the day and close at night, but the flowers of sandalwood usually only open for three to four days.

Ecological habit differences

Rat tail palm is suitable for places with plenty of sunlight. It is drought-resistant and sun-resistant but not cold-resistant. In winter, its living environment must be kept at at least ten degrees Celsius to survive.

Sandalwood is suitable for living in an environment with good ventilation. It is drought and shade tolerant but afraid of high temperatures and strong light. It can be given appropriate sunlight, but should not be exposed to the sun.
