Weeping Jasmine cultivation methods and precautions

Weeping Jasmine, the "white butterfly" of the plant world, is famous for its flowers that flutter like flying butterflies when in bloom and has become quite popular in recent years. Despite the name, Jasmine is not directly related to the jasmine flower. Weeping jasmine is a shrub or small tree of the genus Verbenaceae . It can grow up to 4 meters high, is evergreen all year round, and prefers a warm and humid environment. Let’s learn about the cultivation methods and precautions of weeping jasmine.

1. Pot soil selection

Weeping jasmine is suitable for potted plants and has low requirements for soil, preferably loose and breathable. You can use general nutrient soil, or mix it with garden soil in a 1:1 ratio, and even sandy soil can be adapted. When potting, add enough base fertilizer to the bottom of the pot and use fermented organic fertilizer to promote healthy growth.

2. Fertilizer and water management

Weeping jasmine has a well-developed root system and is drought-resistant. Watering should follow the principle of watering thoroughly when the weather is dry. Apply full-element water-soluble fertilizer once every 10 days or so during the growing season, and once every 5-7 days during the peak growth period in summer. Nutrient deficiency is prone to occur in summer, so a variety of trace element fertilizers should be applied regularly. Add phosphorus and potassium fertilizers after autumn to promote the growth of flower buds and prolong the flowering period. Continuous application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers from September to March or April of the following year will help extend the flowering period.

3. Lighting control

Weeping Jasmine has strong adaptability and can tolerate partial shade and grow in full sunlight. It needs to be kept well hydrated in summer to prevent sunburn. As a short-day plant, long-term sunlight should be avoided to avoid affecting flowering.

4. Reasonable pruning

It grows rapidly in summer, and timely topping promotes branching and maintains a beautiful plant shape. The inflorescence is 20-30cm long, and it is recommended to maintain an appropriate height to show its beauty. After flowering, prune dead and weak branches and shape the plant.

5. Keep warm during the winter

Weeping Jasmine is not cold-resistant, and the wintering temperature should not be lower than 5 degrees. It should be brought indoors for the winter in frost areas and maintained with sufficient light.

In short, as long as you do a good job of daily maintenance, you can ensure that the weeping jasmine grows healthily and blooms flowers as graceful as butterflies.
