Cultivation methods and precautions of daffodils

Cultivation methods and precautions of daffodils

1. Soil

Sand culture method: Since daffodils prefer a warm and humid environment, loose, fertile sandy soil with good water retention properties is generally used for cultivation. Fill the basin with clean fine sand to 3 cm from the edge of the basin, peel off the outer skin of the bulb and bury it in the sand about 1 cm, and spread a few pebbles on the top of the fine sand.

Hydroponic method: Pour water that has been placed a few days in advance into a shallow basin, and then make sure that the clean bulbs are submerged about 1 cm, and move to a cool place.

2. Water

Sand culture method: When using sand and stone to plant, water thoroughly the first time and water every day. If watering is not timely, it will easily cause water shortage and slow growth of flower roots.

Hydroponics: The water of daffodils grown in water needs to be changed once a day, otherwise the stems of the plants will rot. Changing the water every day can make the regenerated roots clean and white. When changing the water, you can expose the tap water to the sun for a period of time 2-3 days in advance to remove residual chlorine and other impurities in the water. Before flowering, the water change frequency can be changed to once every 2-3 days.

3. Lighting

For newly planted daffodils, you can first move them to a cool place, and then move them to a sunny place after 5 days. It is a sun-loving plant, and generally only needs 6-7 hours of sunlight a day; if the sunlight is insufficient, it may result in fewer flowers.

4. Temperature

The temperature for growing daffodils should not be too high or too low, generally around 12-20℃. Too high a temperature can cause the leaves to grow too long and the flowers to become dull.

5. Notes

1. Fertilization: Fertilize 5-7 days after planting, because the rhizome has just grown and matured at this time, and fertilization will not hurt the roots. Do not change the water within 5-7 days after fertilization, otherwise the soil fertility will be lost.

2. Flowering period: Daffodils can be planted in autumn and winter and will bloom in early spring; daffodil bulbs will generally bloom as scheduled after about 40 days of planting, and the flowering period can last almost a whole month.
