How to care for the newly bought Jilongyue

1. How to raise a newly bought Jilongyue

The moonflower is suitable for growing in a warm environment. When you first buy it, you need to keep it in a ventilated place with a temperature of about 23℃. Since the growth is relatively slow at this time, stop fertilizing temporarily and reduce the number of watering. Wait until the soil in the pot is completely dry before watering again. It will take some time for it to adapt to the new environment, so don't put it directly in the sun for the time being. You can first put it in a place with scattered light to ease the potting process.

2. Specific breeding methods

1. Soil: The moonflower is easy to care for and has no strict requirements on the soil. Generally speaking, coarse sand and loam in a 1:1 ratio can be used as its nutrient soil. The potting soil should be good in drainage and air permeability. It does not need to be too large, and it is best to choose a soil that matches the size of the plant.

2. Light: The moonflower needs sufficient sunlight during its growth period, but when it is just bought, it needs to be placed in a place with soft light for a period of time to adapt, and then given sufficient light. Under normal growth conditions, if it is maintained indoors, you can place it on the south balcony where the sunshine hours are long. In winter, as long as it is a sunny day, you can put it outdoors in the sun and give it plenty of light.

3. Temperature: Jilongyue likes warm environment and is slightly cold-resistant. When you first buy it, you can keep it in an environment with a temperature of around 23°C for maintenance. Under normal circumstances, if the temperature is kept above 0℃ in winter, the plants can survive the winter safely. During the high temperature period in summer, the plants can be placed in a cool and ventilated place for maintenance to avoid exposure to the sun.

4. Watering: The moonflower is not tolerant to waterlogging, and its growth rate is even slower when it is first bought. During this period, the frequency of watering needs to be reduced to avoid affecting the normal growth of the plant. Under normal circumstances, adhere to the principle of "don't water unless the plant is dry, and water thoroughly when you do", and do not allow water to accumulate in the pot, otherwise it will easily affect the breathing of the roots and eventually cause root rot. You need to pay more attention when watering, and you can flexibly change the watering time and amount according to the overall growth of the plant. On rainy days, you need to take certain precautions to avoid prolonged exposure to rain.

5. Fertilization: Jilongyue likes fertilizer, so no fertilizer is needed when you just buy it. Under normal circumstances, it is only necessary to fertilize the moonflower during its peak growth period, and no fertilizer is needed in summer or winter. Fertilizer can be decomposed thin liquid fertilizer or compound fertilizer. If compound fertilizer is used, it is important to choose the type with low nitrogen and high phosphorus and potassium. There is no need to apply fertilizer too frequently, generally once every 20 days is sufficient.
