Schefflera , also known as Schefflera arborvitae , is an evergreen tree . It has beautiful branches and leaves, is green all year round, and is very easy to grow, so it is loved by many flower lovers. So how do you propagate Schefflera by cuttings? What is the time and method for cuttings? Let’s learn more about it below. Schefflera cutting time If you want Schefflera to take root quickly through cuttings, you should master the correct cutting time. Schefflera arborvitae cuttings can generally be carried out from April to September, when the light, water and temperature conditions are suitable. In addition, you can also choose to carry out Schefflera cuttings on cloudy days or after rain. This can reduce the evaporation of water in the cuttings, reduce the heat received by the cuttings, and help improve the survival rate. Schefflera cutting method 1. Cutting selection Choose a healthy mother plant that is free of disease and insect pests, and cut branches about 10-15 cm long as cuttings. 2-3 leaves should be retained on the cuttings, and the rest should be cut off. Then, cut the lower end of the cuttings into an oblique end and the upper end into a flat end to facilitate rooting. 2. Pot soil selection When preparing potted Schefflera arborvitae, a 15-20 cm pot is usually used, and broken tiles or bricks are placed at the bottom of the pot to facilitate drainage. The soil for Schefflera arborvitae cuttings can be loam mixed with river sand and garden soil. Of course, you can also use river sand directly. The soil must be kept moist and well-ventilated. 3. Do a good job of disinfection Soak the pruned branches in a solution (0.2% carbendazim solution or potassium permanganate solution) for 5-10 minutes to sterilize them, then spray the solution on the soil matrix to disinfect the matrix. After disinfection in this way, the risk of black stems on branches can be greatly reduced. 4. Cutting method Put the prepared soil into the flowerpot, compact it lightly with your hands, then poke holes in the soil with bamboo chopsticks, and then insert the cuttings into the substrate to a depth of about two centimeters. You can insert them horizontally or vertically. 5. Post-insertion management After the branches are inserted, water the flowerpot thoroughly and place it in a cool and ventilated place for maintenance. You need to spray water on the branches and leaves every day to keep them moist, and water them in time when you see the soil in the flowerpot is dry. In addition, please note that only some diffuse light can be given to the branches, and strong light exposure is prohibited. After rooting, water with nutrient solution and replenish the pot once a week. In general, when carrying out cutting propagation of Schefflera, it is very important to choose the appropriate time and method of cutting. Generally, branches with better growth are inserted into loose and fertile soil, watered on time every day, and sufficient nutrition and light are ensured after cuttings.
