How to grow mountain laurel

How to grow mountain laurel

1. The soil should be thicker

Mountain laurel prefers warm places, so it is more suitable to be planted in some deep soils. When choosing the soil, it must not only be fertile, but also have good drainage. The soil must contain humus and slightly acidic sandy conditions for the mountain laurel to grow better. Because mountain laurel tolerates drought, it will grow particularly slowly in soil that is not fertile and lacks nutrients. So be sure to choose a soil that is relatively fertile.

2. Adequate sunlight and ventilation

Mountain laurel prefers warmer, sunny places and is afraid of cold places, but it also has a certain ability to tolerate shade. When it is a young tree, it needs proper shade. When it grows up, it has a particularly large demand for sunlight, so it must be given sufficient sunlight so that it can grow normally. It was observed that the crown of the mountain laurel is generally close to the wall, or when the crowns of two osmanthus trees overlap, the crown on the side close to the wall will become particularly sparse, which makes the entire tree shape look very ugly. So it seems that it prefers places with better ventilation and more sunlight.

3. Control the amount of water

Mountain laurel is afraid of being flooded and waterlogged. If too much water is given and waterlogging occurs, its roots will easily turn black and then rot. The leaves will begin to dry up, then slowly turn yellow and fall off, eventually causing the entire plant to die. Therefore, do not water too much. Generally, you can water it more when it is young, and when it becomes an adult, you should slowly reduce the amount of watering to prevent waterlogging.

4. Proper transplanting

We can carry out appropriate transplanting in spring or autumn. It is best to choose spring because the temperature at that time is more suitable. If it is autumn, we should wait until the temperature starts to cool down, and it is best to transplant in a place with sufficient water.
