What is granular soil?

Introduction to Granular Soil

Granular soil is a general term for a type of soil, usually soil such as Kanuma soil, Akadama soil, and granular peat soil, which has a granular appearance.

Kanuma soil

Kanuma soil composition

Kanuma soil is produced in volcanic areas. It is formed from the lower layer of volcanic soil in the form of volcanic sand and has an acidic pH value.

Characteristics of Kanuma Soil

advantage

First, Kanuma soil paving has certain nutrients, which can penetrate into the soil when water is applied;

Second, Kanuma soil has high permeability, water storage capacity and air permeability.

shortcoming

Long-term use of Kanuma soil will make the plants dependent on Kanuma, causing them to grow slowly once Kanuma is no longer used.

Plants suitable for Kanuma soil

Kanuma soil is commonly used for bonsai, orchids, alpine flowers, etc.

Akadama

Akadama Ingredients

Akadama is formed by the accumulation of volcanic ash and can be called highly permeable volcanic mud with a slightly acidic pH value.

Characteristics of Akadama

advantage

The shape of Akadama soil is conducive to water storage and drainage.

shortcoming

Akadama easily turns into powder.

Plants suitable for Akadama soil

Akadama can be used to cultivate succulent plants such as cacti, Chinese orchids, etc. It can also be mixed with other media for lawn planting and horticultural plant seedling cultivation.

Granular peat soil

Granular peat soil composition

Granular peat soil is rich in organic matter and humic acid.

Characteristics of granular peat soil

advantage

First, granular peat soil can significantly prolong and improve the fertilization effect of plants;

Second, granular peat soil is relatively loose, has good air permeability and water permeability, and has strong water and fertilizer retention capabilities.

shortcoming

Granular peat soil itself has low fertility.

Granular peat soil suitable for plants

Granular peat soil is mostly used as potting medium for seedlings and potted flowers.
