Management of sunflower growth stages

Seedling stage

The stage from germination to budding is called the seedling stage. During this stage, the above-ground part of the sunflower grows relatively slowly, while the underground root part grows faster. This stage is when the sunflower has the strongest drought resistance.

During this stage, water the plant about once a week, fertilize once every half a month, and ensure sufficient sunlight.

Bud stage

The budding stage is the most vigorous stage in the life of a sunflower. During this period, sunflowers require the most fertilizer and water. If the sunflower's needs for water and fertilizer are not met during this stage, the sunflower's yield will be seriously affected.

Flowering period

The flowering period refers to the period when the disk opens from the ligulate flowers to the tubular flowers. During this stage, the sowing period of sunflowers should be adjusted, and appropriate times should be chosen for fertilization and watering, pests and diseases should be prevented and controlled, as well as methods such as releasing bees or artificial assisted pollination can be adopted to increase the fruit set rate of sunflowers.

Maturity

There are differences between different sunflower varieties at this stage. About 15 days after flowering and pollination, the grain formation stage begins. During this period, it is best to place it in an environment with clear weather, large temperature difference during the day and maintain appropriate soil moisture.
