The difference between lisianthus and platycodon

Different families

Platycodon grandiflorum belongs to the genus Platycodon grandiflorum in the family Campanulaceae. Eustoma, also known as prairie gentian, is a perennial plant of the Gentianaceae family.

Different morphological characteristics

Platycodon grandiflorum is an annual or biennial herb with a height of about 30 to 100 cm. The leaves are alternate, broadly elliptic to lanceolate, with the base slightly clasping the stem, and are blue-green. The bracts are lanceolate, the pistils and stamens are relatively obvious, and the petals are arranged in an imbricate manner. The colors of Platycodon grandiflorum are very rich and varied, including single and multi-colored ones, and the petals can be single or double.

The color of Platycodon grandiflorum is very bright and beautiful, and the flower shape is also quite unique, which makes it one of the most popular potted and cut flower varieties in the world.

The height of the lisianthus plant is about 30 to 100 cm. Dwarf lisianthus is suitable for potted plants, and lisianthus with stems longer than 50 cm are suitable for fresh cut flowers. The flowering period of lisianthus is from July to September. The flowers of lisianthus are single and terminal, or several flowers are gathered into a pseudoraceme, or the inflorescences are branched and gathered into a panicle; the corolla is broadly funnel-shaped and bell-shaped, the calyx is bell-shaped with five lobes, and the flowers are blue or purple, rarely white and pink.

Different growth requirements

Platycodon has a strong ability to adapt to climate. It can withstand high temperatures as well as cold weather. It is produced in most areas of my country. The color of Platycodon grandiflorum flowers is mostly blue-purple, with a few white. They are shaped like hanging bells and bloom from June to August.

Lisianthus prefers a warm and well-lit environment, and the suitable temperature for growth is 15-25℃. It likes well-drained, loose and fertile "calcium" soil. Slightly cold-resistant (above 5 degrees).
