How to water flowers with rice water

How to water flowers with rice water

1. About nutrients

In fact, rice water is usually mixed with bran and a small amount of broken rice grains. It is rich in phosphorus, nitrogen, trace elements and other nutrients needed for the growth of flowers. It is certain that using rice water for watering is very beneficial to the growth and development of flowers and trees. Of course, the amount of "selected rice" and "rice that doesn't need to be washed" sold in stores has dropped dramatically, so there is little point in using them for watering flowers.

2. About “harm”

It is not good to water flowers directly with rice water. In the long run, the soil in the potted flowers will become compacted, hindering the breathing of the plant roots, and excessive watering will also burn the roots of the plants.

3. About ripening and fermentation

Only after being decomposed and fermented can nutrients be successfully absorbed by plants. This is the same principle as growing crops and vegetables. Applying uncomposted manure directly will "burn" the crops and vegetables. Let me explain it this way: the purpose of allowing all organic fertilizers to fully ferment is mainly to prevent the heat generated during the fermentation process from burning the roots of the plants.
The fermentation technique is very simple:

Put the rice washing water in an empty jar and seal the jar tightly. Some friends may use a large Coke bottle. After about two weeks, it can be used shorter in summer and slightly longer in other seasons. Remember to ventilate the sealed bottle (gas will be released during fermentation). When watering, take the clear liquid, dilute and stir it with water. 70% to 80% clean water is recommended. Be careful not to get water on the leaves.

4. Use good flower fertilizer

Growing flowers and vegetables is a pleasure, turning things around you into treasures, it is environmentally friendly and economical...The most important thing is that natural organic fertilizers are more suitable for the growth and development of plants.

After fermentation, rice water becomes weakly acidic, which can neutralize the alkaline nature of tap water. The fermented rice water, in addition to being rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and other elements, also contains a large amount of iron, magnesium, copper, zinc, molybdenum and other trace elements. It is a harmless, pollution-free, nutritionally comprehensive compound fertilizer. Using it to water flowers and trees that prefer acidic soil (such as azalea, Milan, jasmine, gardenia, camellia, osmanthus, etc.) can not only promote the healthy growth of the plants, lush branches and leaves, more flowers, and bright colors, but also can prolong the flowering period and prevent chlorosis. At the same time, since rice water contains more phosphorus (the main component of rice bran is phosphorus fertilizer), it can promote the formation of flower buds, promote the differentiation of flower buds, and make flowers and trees have bright flowers, green leaves and plump fruits. When watering foliage plants (such as green radish, rubber tree, etc.), I think it is more important to take advantage of its slightly acidic nature, which can make the patterns on the leaves of the plants grow very beautifully.

5. About smell

Some friends don't like the smell of organic fertilizer, so adding some orange peel is very effective. This is because orange peel contains a lot of essential oils, which can continuously volatilize the fragrance during the fermentation process of the fertilizer, thereby reducing the smell of organic fertilizer... and orange peel itself is also an excellent fertilizer.

Pay attention to the seal. Breathe at the right time. (In fact, the fermentation process is smelly, but it does not smell after fermentation is completed.) Some friends use a large syringe to inject fertilizer along the edge of the pot, which is a very smart method.

6. About fertility

Fermented rice water has a milder fertility after dilution. It can replace tap water for watering flowers and is also good for improving soil quality. However, it cannot completely replace full-effect organic fertilizer. It mainly has a supplementary effect. If you want a good harvest, you still need to fertilize during the agricultural period.

When using fermented rice water, apply fertilizer in thin and sparse amounts. Don't do it too frequently to avoid the soil becoming too acidic. It cannot be mixed with alkaline fertilizers, but can be mixed with acidic fertilizers.

7. Applicable flowers

Please note that not all plants are suitable for watering with fermented rice water. For example, alkaline plants such as cacti are not suitable. Neither does the maidenhair fern.
