Maintenance tips for foliage plants

Maintenance tips for foliage plants

1. Control light and moisture

When new leaves are sprouting, control the light and water, try to slow down the growth rate of the new leaves, and make the stems sprout more leaves. The denser the new leaves are arranged, the more they will bend downward, which will help to produce naturally beautiful mature leaves.

2. Remove old leaves

Remove the old leaves to allow the terminal buds to sprout new leaves in advance. After the new leaves are fully formed, remove the leaves with poor shape to avoid wasting them.

3. Water appropriately

Water appropriately to prevent water accumulation in the pot, otherwise the new branches will grow too long while the old leaves will wither, resulting in an obvious imbalance in the number and shape of new and old leaves. Therefore, the amount of water should be controlled. For foliage plants with strong drought resistance, water should be added appropriately after the soil 2 to 3 cm below the pot becomes dry. The watering time is 10 am, and normal management can be resumed after the new leaves are formed.

4. Rotate the pot regularly

The leaves are sun-tropic and phototropic, especially the new leaves, which tend to grow tilted towards the sunlight, resulting in the old leaves being higher at the back and lower at the front, and of varying sizes. In order to make the branches and leaves grow evenly and gracefully, you need to rotate the pot and change its direction frequently. For example: when the leaf inclination is large, the north side of the pot should be turned to the south side, and the frequency of pot rotation should be 10 to 15 days.
