Violet cultivation steps

1. This flower likes cool weather, is cold-resistant but not shade-tolerant, and is afraid of waterlogging. It is suitable for growing in a higher position, with exposure to sunlight, and in a well-ventilated and well-drained environment.

2. Be careful not to get too hot or stuffy during the rainy season. When ventilation is poor, the room is more susceptible to pests and diseases.

3. When collecting seeds, it is advisable to choose single-petal flowers as the mother plant, because double-petal flowers lack pistils and cannot produce seeds. Collecting seeds from potted mother plants will have a higher petal rate in the second generation.

4. The soil in the pot should be relatively moist before sowing. Cover it with a thin layer of fine soil after sowing and stop watering. If the soil in the pot is dry within half a month, place half of the pot in water and add water from the bottom of the pot to moisten the soil. Pay attention to shade after sowing, and seedlings will emerge in about 15 days.

5. Before the true leaves unfold, the seedlings should be planted in the seedbed with appropriate spacing between rows and plants. When pulling out the seedlings, be careful not to damage the roots and make sure to carry the soil ball with them. Before planting, some dry pig and chicken manure should be applied to the soil as base fertilizer.

6. After transplanting, it is necessary to water the plants sufficiently to establish their roots, and provide shade but not to make them stuffy. Potted plants should be transplanted to a cool and ventilated place, and then moved to a sunny place after they survive. Water them every other day, and apply decomposed liquid fertilizer every 10 days. Stop fertilizing immediately after the flowers appear.

Things to note when growing violets

For Gundam varieties, the flower branches should be cut off after flowering, and then add thin liquid fertilizer 1-2 times to promote the growth of side branches. Before the first frost arrives, the ground-planted plants should be dug up with the soil ball, stored in sunny beds or placed in flowerpots indoors for the winter.
