The legend of Paphiopedilum

It is said that God has seven very beautiful daughters. When they learned that a rich man on earth had a garden full of exotic flowers, they would go to the garden every afternoon after bathing, wearing long nightgowns and beautiful slippers when their parents were not paying attention.

He sneaked into the rich man's garden to play, and only hurried back to heaven when the Emperor of Heaven was about to close the gates of heaven.

At first, all the blooming flowers and green grass in the garden smiled to welcome the beautiful fairies , and the seven fairies enjoyed the beautiful scenery and had fun, getting along happily with each other. Gradually, their naughty nature was revealed . They played hide-and-seek and jumped around in the garden, trampling the flowers and plants until they were dejected and angry.

One day, the flowers and plants deliberately tripped the youngest fairy when she was not paying attention, and hid her slippers in the arms of an orchid , disguised as petals. The fairies could not find them, so they had to hurry back before the gates of heaven closed. After returning to heaven, they finally told the truth under their mother's questioning . As a result, they were forbidden to come down to the mortal world. The flowers and plants in the garden regained their vitality. As for the fairy's slippers, they always remain on the petals of the orchid and gradually turn into an interesting slipper orchid.

What makes Paphiopedilum special?

The slipper orchid is unique among orchids. The most obvious difference is that unlike most epiphytic orchids, it is a terrestrial orchid and does not have a pseudobulb. The slipper orchid is the most eye-catching flower in the Dutch flower show. Its flowers stand on two petals, with a large slipper-shaped lip and a dorsal sepal. The colors range from yellow, green, brown to purple, and are often veined or striped. Many species of slipper orchids can bloom all year round and are one of the best varieties for indoor cultivation.
