Is the red spider lily a mandala flower? What is the difference between the red spider lily and the mandala flower?

1. Is it a Datura flower?

Red spider lily is not the datura flower. The two are very different and are not even the same plant. The former is one of the varieties of the genus Lycoris in the Amaryllis family, and its scientific name is Lycoris radiata. The latter is a flower of the genus Datura in the Solanaceae family, and has many aliases, such as datura, big trumpet flower, and evening primrose. There is also a kind of white red spider lily, also known as Mandragora, which is only one word different from the latter.

2. The difference between the two

1. Morphological characteristics: Red spider lily has a bulb and clustered leaves, most of which are fleshy. Its flowers are umbels, usually with 5-7 flowers, red in color, with curled petals, and leaves usually grow after the flowers fade. The flower stem of Datura is thick and upright, with a height between 50-150 cm. Its leaves are broadly oval, and the flowers are solitary and come in rich colors, including white, red, purple, etc.

2. Growth habits: Red spider lily is very cold-resistant and prefers a semi-shady environment, but it is also resistant to exposure to the sun. The plant has a certain degree of drought tolerance, but prefers moisture. It can grow in a variety of soils and tends to hibernate in summer. Datura grows in places with sufficient sunlight. It has strong drought resistance and is afraid of waterlogging, so the soil must have a certain degree of drainage.

3. Meaning and symbolism: According to legend, the red spider lily is the flower of the underworld, representing endless love, the foreshadowing of death and the call of hell. Although the meaning is not pleasing, it is still deeply loved by people because of its unique shape. Different colors of Datura flowers have different meanings. For example, pink represents suitability, black represents death, white represents anesthesia, green represents hope, and gold represents happiness.
