Cucumber Planting Methods

Cucumber Planting Methods

1. Planting time

The planting time of cucumbers is generally around March and April each year. The temperature at this time is already relatively warm, above 5℃ at night and reaching 18℃ during the day, which is suitable for the growth and development of seedlings. Different regions also need to make adjustments based on the local climate, which can be earlier or later. In addition, it can also be planted in autumn, usually two months before the Descent of Frost. If it is planted too late, the frost will affect its quality and even reduce the yield.

2. Seed Soaking and Germination

Before planting, the seeds must be germinated first. Prepare 50℃ hot water, put the seeds in and soak them for a few minutes, which can have the effect of disinfection and sterilization. Then change to warm water at 30℃ and soak for 3-4 hours. After taking it out, place it in a wet cloth, keep the temperature at around 20℃, and spray water frequently to keep it moist. You will see the seeds turning white in about two days.

3. How to plant

Whether you are planting in the ground or in a pot, make sure the soil is suitable. The substrate is usually prepared with garden soil and river sand, and an appropriate amount of farmyard manure is added as base fertilizer. This can provide certain nutrients and is very helpful for the growth of cucumbers. Sow the seeds in the soil, cover them with a layer of fine soil, water them appropriately, and wait for about a week, then you will see them sprout.

4. Transplanting

Generally, cucumbers should be transplanted when they grow two true leaves. In view of the dense planting in the early stage, they should be planted separately, with two trees in one pot. Be careful when transplanting so as not to damage its root system. Remember to water it afterwards and it will usually resume growth in a week. Then you need to prepare to set up the frame and carry out good water and fertilizer management.
