When will the peony seedlings bloom? How to raise peony seedlings?

1. How long does it take to bloom?

After peony is sown, it usually takes 4 to 5 years for it to bloom. The fruit of this plant is a follicle, which contains 1-7 seeds. It is usually harvested when the fruit turns yellow. If it is harvested too early, the seeds will not be mature. If it is harvested too late, the seed coat will become hard, affecting its germination. Do not expose the seeds to direct sunlight after taking them, otherwise the seed coat will harden. If they cannot be sown in time, they need to be preserved in wet sand.

2. Sowing Method

1. Sowing time: Peonies are generally sown as soon as they are harvested. Since the time at which the plants mature varies from place to place, the sowing time is also different, but it is basically in autumn. For example, Luoyang, Henan, will sow in early to mid-August, Heze, Shandong and Yangzhou, Jiangsu will sow in late August, and Heilongjiang will have to wait until early September.

2. Soak the seeds for germination: Before sowing, you need to select them first, pick out the empty seeds and keep the full ones. Prepare a basin of warm water with a temperature of about 50℃, soak the seeds in the water, and take them out after one day. Soaking allows the seeds to absorb enough water, allowing them to germinate more evenly and increase the germination rate to about 80%.

3. Preparation of potting soil: When planting peonies, you must use loose and fertile soil, which is more conducive to the development of the plants. Usually, the soil is prepared with garden soil, river sand and decomposed pine needles, and mixed in a ratio of 5:3:2. This can provide good drainage and certain nutrients, which is beneficial to the subsequent development of the plants.

4. Sowing and seedling raising: Sprinkle the peony seeds on the soil surface, cover with a layer of fine soil, water it sufficiently and cover it with plastic film to keep it warm and moist. When new buds emerge in the spring of the following year, you can remove the plastic film, increase the light, and apply appropriate fertilizer.
