How to care for the newly bought Rieger Begonia

1. Soil

Begonia prefers slightly acidic soil. It is better to use a planting soil that is a mixture of garden soil and pine needle soil, which meets the requirements of slightly acidic soil while taking into account ventilation and air permeability. When repotting, if there is no pine needle soil, you can add diluted ferrous sulfate to the garden soil to adjust the acidity and alkalinity of the soil.

2. Environment

When you first buy it, you need to give it a comfortable environment with good ventilation. It is best to have a room temperature of 18-25℃ and mild light to ensure its growth and development. You have to spend the winter at home and the temperature should not be lower than 5℃. Provide appropriate shade in summer and keep the temperature below 30℃.

3. Watering

Do not water before repotting. Water after repotting or when there are signs of growth. Just water thoroughly. It likes a humid environment. When watering, spray water mist around it to increase the air humidity. An overly dry environment can cause problems such as leaf dryness or gray mold.

4. Fertilization

When watering, you can add a small amount of potassium fertilizer to the water once every half a month to promote its growth. After the flowering period, you can apply compound fertilizer once to supplement nutrients and prepare for the next flowering. There is no need to fertilize at other times. Excessive fertilization may cause root damage, which is not worth the cost.

5. Pruning

Proper pruning should be carried out after the flowering period to reduce its consumption and allow it to safely spend the summer. Cut off excess and damaged branches, etc., and apply some sterilization drugs on the cut ends for disinfection to prevent branch rot.
