Tuberose cultivation methods and precautions

Tuberose cultivation methods and precautions

Tuberose is famous for its white flowers and rich fragrance, which is especially strong at night, hence the name. Its green leaves, elegant stems and branches, as well as its refreshing fragrance, are loved by many flower lovers. Let’s learn about the cultivation methods and precautions of tuberose below.

1. Bulb selection

If you purchase smaller bulbs, it is normal for them not to bloom after a year or two. So, choosing a large bulb to plant usually guarantees flowering.

2. Reasonable lighting

Lighting is a crucial factor. Some flower lovers plant tuberose indoors, but due to insufficient light, the leaves grow poorly, become weak and fall over. Tuberose is a light-loving plant, so it is necessary to ensure sufficient light. If there is insufficient light, the tuberose may not bloom. It is not recommended to plant it in the absence of light.

3. Choose the right fertilizer

When the tuberose's leaves are growing vigorously and you think it should be blooming, you should reduce the use of nitrogen fertilizer and instead add phosphorus fertilizer. Some flower lovers may choose nitrogen fertilizer or general-purpose fertilizer, which will cause the plant to grow more bulbs and leaves instead of flowers. Therefore, when the leaves have grown to a certain extent, start using phosphorus fertilizers, such as potassium dihydrogen phosphate, once every 10 days and water them directly into the soil. This will cause the plant to reduce leaf and bulb growth and instead quickly produce flower stalks, allowing for flowers to be seen in the fall.

All in all, tuberose is a very easy plant to care for, and it has a strong fragrance when it blooms. The flowers are large and after being cut and placed in a vase they will gradually open, blooming from bottom to top. They have a long flowering period and can emit fragrance when placed indoors.
