How to grow rice bamboo to make it grow vigorously?

Rice bamboo, also known as small bamboo, has been a very popular potted plant in recent years because of its short plant shape and beautiful leaves. Many people plant it in their homes. So how can we grow rice bamboo so that it grows vigorously? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Soil selection

Bamboo prefers well-drained, fertile, acidic soil. When growing in potted plants, you can choose peat soil, perlite and vermiculite and mix them in a ratio of 2:1:1. This kind of soil is both water-retaining and breathable, which is conducive to the growth of bamboo roots.

2. Scattered Light

The plant of rice bamboo does not need too much light. It is a plant that can grow well under scattered light, so it is a relatively weak sun-loving plant. This plant only needs to be placed in a ventilated, humid place indoors where the light is not strong to survive. It does not like exposure to sunlight, so never place it in the hot sun.

3. Water appropriately

Rice bamboo has a high demand for water, but waterlogging should also be avoided. During the growing period, just keep the soil moist. In spring and autumn, water every 2-3 days; in summer when the temperature is high, water once a day and spray water appropriately to increase the air humidity; in winter, reduce the frequency of watering and keep the soil slightly moist.

4. Nutritional supplement

The growth rate of rice bamboo is relatively fast and requires regular fertilization to supplement nutrients. During the growth period, apply thin liquid fertilizer once every half a month, mainly nitrogen fertilizer and supplemented by phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. Stop fertilizing in winter to avoid fertilizer damage.

5. Proper pruning

The growth rate of rice bamboo is relatively fast, and in order to maintain its beautiful shape, it needs to be pruned regularly. Mainly cut off the withered, yellow, diseased and too dense branches and leaves to keep the bamboo ventilated and light-permeable.

6. Pest and disease control

Rice bamboo is relatively resistant to diseases and insect pests, but it may still be attacked by pests such as aphids and red spiders in high temperature and high humidity environments. Once signs of pests and diseases are found, timely measures should be taken to prevent and control them, such as spraying low-toxic and high-efficiency insecticides or fungicides . At the same time, we should also pay attention to improving the breeding environment and enhancing the disease resistance of rice bamboo.
