How to care for the newly bought coleus

How to care for the newly bought coleus

1. Soil

When you just buy it, you can change the pot and soil after it adapts to the environment. It has high requirements for soil, preferably well-drained, breathable, loose and fertile soil, and it is best to add some humus. If conditions permit, you can also add some base fertilizer, such as wood ash, etc. It is best to use a breathable pot, such as a clay pot. Be sure not to damage the root system when repotting to prevent root infection and poor development.

2. Temperature

When you first bring it home, you should pay attention to adjusting the room temperature. 20-25℃ is the most suitable temperature for it. The temperature should not be lower than 10℃ during the winter, otherwise the leaves will turn yellow or even fall off. Do not allow its maintenance environment to experience large temperature changes, which will affect its rooting and branching.

3. Watering

It needs to keep the soil in the pot moist during the growing season. It is afraid of drought and is also afraid of waterlogging. Don't rush to water it when you just buy it to prevent water accumulation and root rot. If you water too much, the leaves will easily lose color, which will affect the appearance.

4. Lighting

Don’t place it in a place with strong sunlight when you just bring it home. It is best to grow it in a place with soft sunlight such as the living room. Because the intensity and duration of light have a direct impact on the color of its leaves. When there is enough sunlight every day, the leaves will be bright and transparent, but if they are exposed to the sun for a long time, the leaves will become rough and lose their luster. But if it is kept in a shaded environment for a long time, the leaf color will become dull.

5. Fertilization

Coleus does not have high requirements for fertilizer. When planting, it is best to apply enough base fertilizer. When repotting, just add a thin layer of fertilizer at the bottom of the pot. Fertilizing once every half a month during its rapid growth period will help promote its rooting and growth.
