In some places, cucumber is called crispy melon. It is on the market in summer and autumn. It is mainly used as an edible young melon for cooking. It has a particularly crisp and tender taste and is very popular. Here are some tips on growing and managing cucumbers. 1. Land preparation If the land is too dry when it is prepared before sowing, water it thoroughly first, and then apply enough base fertilizer, 2,000 kg of decomposed manure and 50 kg of compound fertilizer per mu of land. Turn the soil, harrow it several times, and make ridges. Where there is less rain, the crops are planted in furrows; where there is more rain, the crops are planted in ridges; and in other places, the crops are planted in flat beds. 2. Planting Before sowing cucumber seeds, soak them overnight, then wrap them with a wet towel. After the seeds turn white, you can plant them directly. Sow the cucumber in holes and add some seed mixing water when sowing. The maximum row spacing is 80cm, the minimum row spacing is 60cm, and the plant spacing is about 35cm. Cover with wet soil after sowing and keep the soil moist during emergence. 3. Seedling stage During the growth period of the seedlings, irrigate appropriately and keep the soil slightly dry and moist until three or four true leaves grow. Then let the seedlings grow until they bloom and bear fruit. 4. Water and fertilizer After the cauliflower has formed fruits, you should start watering it more often, but not too much. Just keep the soil from becoming dry. Watering it one or two days before harvest will make the cauliflower more crisp and tender. The growing period of cucumber is short and fertilization is simple, mainly base fertilizer with appropriate top dressing. If the growth is not vigorous during the vine extension stage, you can apply some urea, about 5 kilograms per mu of land. After the melons are formed, topdressing should be done in thin layers and frequently. It will be more effective if applied along with water. The amount of topdressing applied each time does not need to be too large. 5. Topping When the cucumber grows to 6-8 true leaves, it needs to be topped. The cucumber does not need a trellis and is a climbing sweet potato , but its branches and vines grow extremely quickly and are thick. If it is not toppled, it is easy to cause the cucumber to grow too tall and appear to be lush, but it will have fewer flowers and fruits. After topping, the side branches of the cucumber will grow quickly, and the fruiting rate on the side branches is quite high, with one side branch producing 4-5 fruits. That’s it |
