How to grow purse beans to achieve high yield?

Kidney bean is a plant of the genus Phaseolus in the legume family. It is also called kidney bean because of its shape which resembles human kidney. The purse beans are rich in nutrients such as vitamins, minerals , starch and protein. So how can we grow the purse beans to achieve high yields? Let’s take a look with the editor below.

1. Soil preparation

Choose well-drained, fertile soil and deep plow and loosen the soil to improve soil permeability. Apply an appropriate amount of base fertilizer, such as well-rotted farmyard manure and a mixture of superphosphate and potassium chloride, to provide adequate nutrients.

2. Seed treatment

Select high-quality purse bean seeds and germinate them. You can soak the seeds in 25% salt water for 8-12 hours, sieve out the shriveled seeds floating on the water, and then disinfect them with hot water. Rhizobia can be used to mix seeds before planting to strengthen stems and increase yields.

3. Seeding and planting

Sow seeds by spot sowing, keeping an appropriate distance between seeds. After sowing, cover the soil and water thoroughly. Wait 3-5 days for the seeds to begin to germinate. When the seedlings grow a pair of true leaves, they can be transplanted into the field when the weather warms up. Before planting, the land should be prepared and the ridges should be leveled. Two rows of two plants or two rows of three plants should be planted, with a row spacing of 60-70 cm and a plant spacing of 30 cm. Apply enough base fertilizer and mix it evenly with the soil before planting.

4. Water and fertilizer management

The purse bean likes moisture but is afraid of waterlogging. Normally, just keep the soil moist. Water frequently during droughts, but do not flood the soil to avoid causing the soil to be too moist and affecting the normal growth of the beans. Watering when the temperature is lower in the morning and evening can increase the soil temperature and is beneficial to the growth of lotus beans. Apply base fertilizer in the early stage of the growth of the lotus bean, and apply top dressing as needed during the growth process. Appropriately add fertilizer before flowering and during fruiting, and you can use chicken manure or other organic fertilizers . Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium should be properly matched, with phosphorus and potassium fertilizers as the main ones and nitrogen fertilizer as the supplementary one. 1.5 kg of urea, 2.5 kg each of superphosphate and potassium sulfate can be applied per mu each time. The effect is better after dilution.

5. Field management

When the beans grow to about 20 cm, start to guide the vines and build simple supports to prevent lodging, promote ventilation and light, and increase yield. The support can be built in a herringbone shape or a flat frame, and the size is determined according to the number of plants to be planted. Weeding and loosening the soil in a timely manner and maintaining soil ventilation and moisture are beneficial to the growth of purse beans.

The above is an introduction to how to grow purse beans for high yields. When the seeds in the pods are full and swollen, the surface of the pods turns light yellow, the water content is low, and it is in a semi-dry state, it can be harvested. For dry storage or seed use, it should be harvested after late August, with large pods and full grains selected, and when the pods are dry and the seeds are fully mature.
