The flower language of mirror grass: Be a person with integrity

Mirror grass, also known as green screen grass, is a perennial succulent herb of the genus Pilea in the Urticaceae family. Although mirror grass is not a mirror, its thick, nearly round fleshy leaves and shield-shaped petioles look very much like the mirrors that ancient immortals used to look at their faces, so people affectionately call it mirror grass.

The leaves of mirror grass are dark green and shiny, and there is a golden dot at the center of the leaf where the petiole is attached, so people also call it "a little gold".

There are radiating leaf veins from the center to the surrounding areas, and some people call it "golden thread grass". The emerald green leaves look like a round screen, so people in Yunnan generally call it "Cuiping Grass". Mirror grass is relatively cold-resistant and prefers shade. It should be grown in a place with shade conditions and is generally used as a potted plant for viewing.

Mirror grass was first recorded in the stone grass category of "Illustrated Catalogue of Plant Names and Realities", which says: "Mirror grass grows in a garden in Yunnan. The rhizome is black and rough, and the leaves grow attached to the stem and roots. The leaves are very similar to water shield, smooth, thick and crisp, hence the name mirror. The "Yunnan Chronicles" records it, saying that it can cure erysipelas. The nature and shape of this grass are roughly the same as saxifrage." The original plant described and attached is consistent with the current urticaceae plant mirror grass.

The confirmation of flower language by the morphological characteristics of mirror grass

Since mirror grass was introduced to Europe in the early 20th century, it has been introduced and cultivated by botanical gardens and gardening enthusiasts in countries such as the United Kingdom, Sweden and Norway. It is regarded as a treasure of indoor foliage flowers and is deeply loved by people.

Its leaves have peculiar shape and beautiful posture. It grows rapidly and is easy to reproduce. It is suitable for greenhouse, courtyard and indoor cultivation. It is an ideal foliage plant worthy of promotion. It is also a good material for making and decorating bonsai.

The wild species of mirror grass grows in the shade and wet places under forests in valleys at an altitude of 1500-3000 meters. It is native to my country, and its distribution area is very small, limited to the western Yunnan and the Hengduan Mountains in southwestern Sichuan. It often grows in the humid environment of cliffs or caves at an altitude of more than 2000m.

The flowers of mirror grass are very small and exist only as a foil to the round mirror surface, but they have the effect of adding icing on the cake.

After being used for home bonsai planting, it is deeply loved for its bright leaves and unique leaf shape. The mirror-like mirror grass looks like an upright gentleman or a graceful and elegant beauty.
