How to water pitcher plants and how to keep them in winter

How to water pitcher plants and how to keep them in winter

1. How to water

Pitcher plant is a carnivorous herb. It was originally distributed in acidic swamps, so it prefers a humid climate. It is necessary to water it more often on a daily basis to keep the soil moist, which is very helpful for the development of the plant. Usually during the peak growing season, water the plants once a day and spray them appropriately to increase the humidity of the environment. If it is summer, water it twice a day, but do not water it at noon to avoid lowering the ground temperature. During the dormant period, you can control watering and don't water too much.

2. How to keep it in winter

1. Prevent cold and keep warm: Pitcher plants are suitable for growing in a warm environment and have poor cold resistance, so you must pay attention to prevent cold and keep warm. The temperature must be above 5-8℃, otherwise the plants will be frostbitten. If the temperature is low, you need to cover the plant with a plastic bag to keep it warm. Pay attention to ventilation regularly, but avoid strong winds.

2. Control water and stop fertilizing: Pitcher plant itself likes moisture, but because the temperature is low in winter, the plant grows slowly and the demand for water is reduced accordingly, so the amount of water should be reduced. In addition, fertilization should be stopped to prevent fertilizer accumulation from causing harm to the plant, which will be detrimental to its growth and may even cause root rot.

3. Appropriate light: Pitcher plant is suitable for growing in a semi-shady environment, but because the temperature in winter is too low and the light is not strong, long-term light exposure can help it survive the winter. Usually the plant should be placed in a sunny place so that it can receive sufficient sunlight, especially at noon, which is very helpful in raising the ambient temperature.
