How to prune Milan flowers and when to prune them

How to prune Milan flowers and when to prune them

1. Pruning time

The pruning time of Milan flowers is generally concentrated in the seedling stage and the growth stage. The emphasis of pruning at different times is different. Pruning during the seedling stage is mainly to control the growth of the plant and facilitate subsequent shaping. Pruning is generally done in November during the growing season, and reasonable thinning is done according to the growth of the plant. In addition, do not prune during the dormant period, as this will be detrimental to the plant's recovery.

2. Pruning method

1. Pinching and topping: During the seedling stage of Milan flowers, the plants need to be pinched and topped, and the length of the trunk should be controlled between 15-20 cm. By topping, you can remove its apical dominance, promote the growth of side branches, make the plant look more beautiful, and make it easier to shape. You can also top the side branches to make them more lush.

2. Daily pruning: Pruning of Milan flowers during the growing season is usually done seven days before and after flowering. Before flowering, you can thin out or remove the buds appropriately. This can reduce nutrient consumption and make the flowers bloom more evenly. After the flowers fade, you need to cut off the remaining flowers in time to accumulate nutrients for the plant to continue growing.

3. Pruning during the disease period: If the Milan flower is sick, the branches and leaves will often become withered, and pruning is also needed at this time. Cut off the diseased branches and leaves, spray drugs such as carbendazim to prevent recurrence of the disease, and place it in a semi-shaded place and wait for the wound to dry, so that the plant will recover quickly. In addition, the cut branches and leaves need to be destroyed in a centralized manner to avoid infecting other plants.
