The roots and leaves are used as medicinal herbs. The taste is slightly spicy, bitter and numbing. It is warm in nature and is said to be slightly toxic. It can unblock meridians, promote qi circulation, activate blood circulation, disperse blood stasis, relieve pain, calm the nerves, reduce swelling and detoxify. Treat colds, headaches, stomachaches, toothaches, rheumatic bone pains, and swelling and pain from falls.

Seven-li Osmanthus, Shuyangquan, Curcuma, and Trillium. Decoction in water.

Treating malnutrition in children

Buddleija root. Two qian of Acanthus sinensis and one qian of jute leaves. Stew lean pork.

Treat mumps

Two cents of Buddleija root, three cents of Plowshare grass, one ounce of Honeysuckle vine, three cents of Hibiscus stem, and two cents of Lion grass. Decoction in water and take twice a day.

Treat lymph node tuberculosis

Buddleija root, Prunella vulgaris. 50 cents of cat's claw and 3 liang of fresh soil. Decoction in water and take twice a day.

Treat rheumatoid arthritis and low back pain

5 qian of Buddleja root, 3 qian of Agastache rugosa, 6 qian of Angelica dahurica, 3 qian of Cymbidium orientalis, and 1 liang of Stephania tetrandra. Decoction in water and take twice a day.
