Can yew be hydroponically cultivated?

Can yew be hydroponically cultivated?

1. Is it possible to grow hydroponically?

1. It can be grown in water. The water needs to be changed once every seven days, and the roots should not enter too much water. If the roots are too deep in the water, they will easily rot. You can also spray potassium dihydrogen phosphate on its leaves so that it can grow more vigorously.

2. After washing its roots, plant them in a basket, then fix them with coarse sand. Place the basket on a container with a suitable opening. Add a little water or nutrient solution to it every day, but do not let the basket be completely soaked in water. As long as the bottom of the basket can touch the water surface, pour out the excess water. As time goes by, the yew will grow new roots, and the new roots will extend into the water, so there is no need to add water to it every day.

2. Precautions for hydroponics

1. Temperature

It is a shade-loving plant and it is best not to expose it to the sun near the window. Water its leaves every day to maintain humidity. And if you want to bask in the sun, you need to do it in moderation. It is best to ventilate it once in the morning and evening, each time for about fifteen minutes. The best time for ventilation is generally around nine to ten in the morning. You can place it in the living room or in the corner of the balcony.

2. Change the water

If the weather is too hot, you can spray it with water twice a day, or drip water on the leaves. If you add water, be sure to use clean water. If its leaves are relatively straight and very shiny, it means it is not short of water. If the leaves are a little shrunken, it means you need to water them. If the leaves are drooping, then the water shortage is more serious.

The amount of water it needs is different at different times. During the growing period from March to November, more water is needed, and during the dormant period from December to February, less water is needed. In spring and autumn, you can change the water once a week, in summer, you can change the water once every three to five days, and in winter, you can change the water once every seven to ten days.

3. Environment

It does not have very high requirements for the environment. In addition to not allowing it to be exposed to direct sunlight, be careful not to use air conditioning directly on it in the room. If it is winter, do not let it get close to the heater, and do not throw things like tea leaves into its pot. If the leaves turn yellow or are infested with insects, spray them with thiophanate-methyl.
