Can canna be grown hydroponically?

Canna can not only be planted in pots or on land, but also in hydroponics or marshes. Those cultivated in water are mostly grown in shallow ponds or using floating bases, floating on the water surface, which can purify water quality and is also helpful in purifying the environment.

How to hydroponically cultivate canna

Ceramic tanks or goldfish tanks are generally used for hydroponics. If you choose canna varieties suitable for hydroponics, you can use the rhizomes to first cultivate seedlings or use seedlings with a height of about 30 cm. This is more conducive to the growth of canna.

Fix the plant in the container where it will be grown. If you use glass beads or other fillers, just fix the roots and keep the plant upright, just like planting it in the soil.

If you are using a planting basket, pass the roots of the plant through the pores of the basket so that it can reach the nutrient solution below, and then secure it with some coarse sand, small gravel or the like.

Then add water mixed with nutrient solution into the container, but do not immerse all the roots. Leave some space and place the container in the sun to ensure that the plant can fully absorb sunlight.

Precautions for hydroponics of canna

In summer, the container should be placed outdoors where it is not exposed to direct sunlight to absorb scattered light, and in winter it should be placed on the sunny side of the room.

Change the water once a week in summer, and one week later in other seasons. Tap water should be left for 10 hours or exposed to the sun for 2 hours before use. Add 1-2 drops of nutrient solution when changing the water.

Spray the leaves of canna at least twice a day to ensure humidity and moisture on the leaves.

Keep the indoor air circulating and pay attention to ventilation. If the canna has root rot, just cut off the rotten roots and replace them with clean water.
