How to control water chestnuts

How to control water chestnuts

The harm of water chestnut

Although waterweed can reflect the water quality of a place, if it grows too wildly, it will cause rot and deterioration, thereby aggravating the pollution of the aquatic environment and making it difficult to carry out some water recreation projects in lakes. The rampant spread of waterweed will inevitably lead to a large amount of manpower and material resources being invested in its control, resulting in a waste of social resources.

Prevention of Water Chestnut

Generally, after water quality treatment, some fish will be released into lakes to maintain ecological balance and some herbivorous fish, such as silver carp and bream, will be released to ensure that the lake water is not too clear and the sunlight is not too abundant, thereby limiting the growth of waterweed.

Control of water chestnut

In addition to biological control, manual cleaning methods can also be used. First of all, the growth of waterweed has certain requirements for the water level of the lake. To control the rampant growth of waterweed, you can first drain the lake water and clean the bottom mud, thereby deepening the water level of the lake. Secondly, sprinkle some lime on the bottom of the lake to change the acidic environment suitable for the growth of waterweed into alkaline, which can inhibit the growth of remaining waterweed.

Another problem is that after the control measures are implemented, some dead water chestnuts will inevitably rot and deteriorate, providing a large amount of nutrients to the algae in the lake, thus causing algae to become a disaster. In this case, it is necessary to plant some flowers that are both ornamental and can improve water quality, such as water lilies and water lilies, on the gentle slopes on both sides of the lake.
