How to plant the seeds of Forsythia suspensa

How to plant the seeds of Forsythia suspensa

1. Seed Collection

The seeds are picked around September in autumn and cannot be sown immediately in the same year because they have to go through the winter and are difficult to manage. After picking the ripe fruits, dry them. Mix one part of seeds with three parts of sand, and the sand should be wet. Mix the seed sand and place it in a storage pit. The size of the pit depends on the number of seeds. Cover the top with soil until it is above the ground.

2. Time

The collected seeds can be sown in the spring of the following year, usually in March in the south and a little later in the north, in April. This is mainly due to temperature factors.

III. Methods

1. Choose a sunny sandy land with good drainage and fertile soil. Sterilize the soil after turning it over. Dig several trenches with a depth of four or five centimeters. Keep the distance between the trenches at about 25 cm. Sprinkle the seeds in the trench soil at an appropriate distance and cover them with a layer of soil about two centimeters thick. You can press lightly, but don't press too hard.

2. Use a watering can to water the soil, completely soak it and keep it moist. The seeds will germinate into seedlings in about half a month to twenty days.

4. Maintenance

1. After the seedlings have grown out, pay attention to the weeds in the field, clean them up in time, loosen the soil, and add appropriate amounts of fertilizer. 2. When the seedlings grow to five centimeters in height, they are relatively stable and thinning out can begin. Remove the overly densely planted seedlings and the sickly and weak seedlings to reserve nutrients for the strong seedlings. After that, you can thin out the seedlings once they grow to ten centimeters.

3. Although it likes a humid environment, its roots are very afraid of waterlogging. In the rainy season, you need to help with drainage to avoid excessive waterlogging. When there is a lot of water, you can dig a few drainage ditches. The seedling stage is the period of vigorous growth, so additional fertilizer should be added to ensure that the soil is fertile.

4. The cultivation time of false forsythia is relatively long and it takes two years before it can be planted.
