Planting and propagation methods of bayberry trees

Water bayberry is extremely resistant to water and moisture and has water purifying capabilities. It is an excellent tree species for lakeside greening, and is particularly suitable for layout in low-lying areas, pond edges and poolsides. It can also be used as a flower path hedge. At the same time, this variety has abundant and beautiful flowers and graceful tree posture, and is also a good material for making bonsai and landscape trees. Let’s talk about the planting and reproduction methods of water bayberry trees .

1. Planting method of bayberry

1. Fertile soil

When planting water bayberry, the soil needs to contain very fertile nutrients, and its roots also need to absorb a lot of oxygen, so the soil for growing it must have very good air permeability. Generally speaking, humus soil, garden soil, and slag are more suitable.

2. Water appropriately

During its growing period, water bayberry needs a lot of water to nourish it. It is necessary to water it frequently to keep moisture in the soil at all times. In addition, some water should be sprinkled on its branches frequently to try to keep its growing environment relatively humid. When the weather is cold, it is not necessary to water it frequently, as long as the soil is kept from drying out.

3. Proper lighting

Bayberry is a plant that prefers sunlight. The growth environment it needs is sufficient light, but it cannot be exposed to direct sunlight, as this will easily cause its branches and leaves to be sunburned. Therefore, it is generally placed in a place with sufficient ventilation and light for maintenance. However, when the sun is relatively strong and the temperature is relatively high, it is necessary to take protective measures to cover it.

4. Prune frequently

The most important thing to note when growing bayberry is to pay attention to pruning its branches and leaves frequently. Spring is generally the most suitable time to do this. Prune off its overly dense branches and leaves and some wilted dead branches to make its branches more balanced and arranged in a neat shape. This is not only conducive to viewing, but also because it has better ventilation and light transmission properties, it is conducive to it blooming more flowers.

5. Fertilize regularly

During the growth period of bayberry, it is necessary to fertilize frequently, generally once a month, but avoid fertilizing in summer because the temperature is too high in summer and fertilizing may burn its roots. In addition, the fertilizer should be diluted before watering it. Do not apply too much at one time, which will be detrimental to its absorption of nutrients. Liquid fertilizer or compound fertilizer is more suitable.

6. Disease prevention and control

Water bayberry is often invaded by sooty mold and chlorosis. The way to prevent and control these two diseases is to use thiophanate-methyl wettable powder or ferrous sulfate aqueous solution and spray its branches and leaves frequently. Water bayberry is also easily damaged by aphids and scale insects. When such pests occur, they should be eliminated with oil emulsions.

2. The propagation method of bayberry

1. Cutting propagation

The best time period for cutting propagation of bayberry is above 20℃. At this time, the temperature is relatively mild and the survival rate of cutting propagation is high. Choose branches larger than 10cm and cut them with scissors. Then soak the cut branches with carbendazim and rooting agent, and then carry out cuttings. Keep the depth within 2cm. Then add some water, and it will take about 20 days for roots to sprout.

2. Seed propagation

The method of sowing and propagation of bayberry is to maintain the growth of its seeds, that is, first select better seeds, then let them be fully nourished by water, soak them, and then when sowing, the soil just needs to be kept in a moist and soft state. Do not use a large amount of water, as this will drown the seeds that have not yet germinated. When it begins to show signs of germination, you can give it some sunlight to help it grow better.
