What to do if the leaves of Kalanchoe are small and dense

What to do if the leaves of Kalanchoe are small and dense

1. Supplement fertilizer

Reason: There is not enough nutrients when the Kalanchoe grows, which causes the plant to be thin and the leaves to fail to grow large.

Solution: Poor growth is usually caused by a lack of nitrogen, and nitrogen fertilizer needs to be supplemented in time. If it is in the growth period, you can add appropriate amount of urea or apply some dwarfing agent. It is not advisable to apply nitrogen fertilizer exclusively during other periods. Instead, you can choose a compound fertilizer with a relatively balanced content of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.

2. Proper shade

Reason: Kalanchoe is afraid of direct sunlight. Long-term exposure to the sun will burn the leaves and cause them to shrink due to water loss.

Solution: Kalanchoe is afraid of the sun and needs proper shade in summer. You can also place it in semi-shade and let it receive light in the early morning or evening. Many people think that long-term light exposure before flowering is helpful to promote flowering, but it is a short-day plant and can only bloom better when the light exposure is less than 8 hours.

3. Reduce watering

Reason: Although Kalanchoe likes moisture, long-term moisture may breed bacteria and make it sick. Stagnant water can cause root rot, so the amount of water needs to be controlled.

Solution: If the Kalanchoe is submerged in water, the water needs to be drained first. If water accumulates for too long, the roots will easily rot. Remove the plant from the pot, trim off the rotten parts, and then disinfect it with carbendazim. If the soil in the pot is too moist, you can loosen the soil appropriately to speed up the evaporation of moisture in the soil, or place it in a ventilated place.

4. Thinning dense branches

Reason: The branches and leaves of Kalanchoe are too dense, which will affect the ventilation and light transmission of the internal leaves, causing them to grow smaller.

Solution: Prune the Kalanchoe during the growing season and cut off the overly dense branches. At the same time, cut off some weak branches, dead branches and inner branches to avoid nutrient waste, which is beneficial to the growth of the plant.
