What to do if bougainvillea only grows leaves but does not bloom

1. Increase lighting

Reason: Bougainvillea can withstand high temperatures. If the maintenance environment is too dark, its leaf color will fade and it will shed leaves and not bloom.

Solution: Increase the lighting time appropriately and get at least 8 hours of sunlight per day. It can be placed on a sunny balcony for maintenance.

2. Change the pot in time

Reason: The root system of Bougainvillea is very developed and it grows very fast. If it is not repotted, it will be difficult for its roots to grow normally, resulting in only leaves growing but no flowers.

Solution: According to its growth conditions, replace the flowerpot with one that suits the plant size in time, and try to change the pot in spring. If the plant grows quickly, you can repot it twice a year.

3. Control water and increase fertilizer

Reason: If you water too much before flowering, it will affect the differentiation of flower buds; in addition, if too much nitrogen fertilizer is applied, it will also lead to no flowering or less flowering.
