What to do if gardenia is frozen

What to do if gardenia is frozen

1. Rescue methods

① You can first observe the frostbite of the plants. If it is only mildly frostbitten, that is, only the leaves and twigs on the ground are frozen, you can first move the plants to a warmer place and place them. Do not place them directly in a place with high temperature. Then cut off all the frostbitten parts. In addition to normal watering, you should also spray more water around the plants, which will help them recover.

If the frostbite is severe, the entire plant should be dug out of the soil and its roots should be observed to see if they are injured. If the roots are fresh, it means it can still be saved. Be careful not to damage the roots when digging.

② Cut off all the damaged branches and leaves on the ground, leaving only one or two good branches.

③After pruning, replant it in a pot and place it in a place where the sun can’t reach and the temperature is suitable. Also, don’t place it in a place where the temperature is too high.

④ Water normally, but the water temperature must be the same as the room temperature, and there should be no water accumulation, and the soil in the pot should not be too moist; at the same time, spray water around the plant every day to make the air more humid, which is conducive to the germination of new buds.

⑤ About a month later, you can see new buds growing out, and proper thinning can restore the plant to normal.

2. Notes

① Be careful when digging out the plant and pruning the branches and leaves. Do not damage its root system, otherwise it may cause the flowers that could have been saved to die.

② If the roots of the dug plants have all been frozen, it may be too late to save them. It is recommended to buy new plants for cultivation.
