How to care for the newly bought Begonia

How to care for the newly bought Begonia

1. Soil

If the soil in the pot is severely compacted, you need to change the soil. Use neutral or slightly acidic soil, not alkaline soil. You can mix garden soil with leaf mold to increase the humus of the soil and ensure the drainage and nutritional basis of the soil.

2. Environment

The crabapple is a very light-loving plant. When you buy it home, it is best to place it on a sunny balcony or in a full-sun location outdoors. It likes mild temperature and good ventilation environment. If placed in a place with long direct sunlight, it will need some shade and cooling in summer.

3. Watering

It likes a humid environment, but is very afraid of waterlogging in the soil, which is why it requires the soil to have good drainage. When watering, water thoroughly and water again when the soil seems dry. When you first bring it home, if the pot is moist, you don’t need to water it yet. If the soil in the pot is too dry, you can water it a little, but water less frequently to prevent water accumulation.

4. Fertilization

When repotting, you can add a layer of base fertilizer at the bottom to further improve the fertility of the soil. Use compound fertilizer about 2 times after flowering. It is best to use phosphorus and potassium fertilizers in July and August, but not too much, as this will be beneficial to the differentiation of flower buds. You can use ordinary fertilizer in November to promote the growth of the tree.

5. Pruning

It is best to prune the crabapple tree after it blooms, shortening the branches that have finished flowering to facilitate its branching and the formation of flower buds. Pruning can also be done after the leaves fall in autumn, trimming the branch shape and removing bad branches, which is beneficial to the growth and beauty of the tree shape in the second year.
