Break off a branch and pinch a leaf... the Kalanchoe will bloom

Break off a branch and pinch a leaf... the Kalanchoe will bloom

Stem top propagation

Cutting time: All year round

Cutting steps:

1. Prepare the cutting medium. Fine river sand or well-drained sandy loam is preferred. You can also buy perlite and vermiculite as cutting medium.

2. Select cuttings. From a healthy mother plant, select branches about five centimeters long. Cut off the lower leaves with a blade, then rinse the wound with tap water and place it in a cool and ventilated place to dry.

3. Insert the dried cuttings into the substrate to a depth of about two or three centimeters, compact them and water them thoroughly.

4. Do not water the Kalanchoe frequently after cuttings. This is because the Kalanchoe is a fleshy succulent plant and excessive watering can easily lead to rot. Just spray water every day and it will take root in about half a month.

Leaf cutting propagation

Leaf cutting time: all year round

Leaf cutting steps:

1. Select leaves: The larger the leaves, the better, and try to ensure that the leaves have complete petioles.

2. Insert the petiole obliquely into the substrate. If there is no petiole, part of the leaf can be inserted directly into the substrate.

3. When growing Kalanchoe through leaf cuttings, do not water it too much, otherwise the leaves will easily rot. Place the grafted leaves in a place with weaker light and keep the temperature at around 20 degrees.

4. The germination of succulents grown from leaf cuttings is very slow. It takes about two or three months before you can see small Kalanchoe flowers sprouting from the roots of the leaves. You must be patient.

Hydroponic propagation

When the fleshy Kalanchoe is propagated by soil cultivation, it is easy to rot due to excessive watering. The hydroponic method can greatly improve the survival rate.

The method of processing cuttings is the same as that of leaf cuttings and stem cuttings. Afterwards, insert the petiole or stem into the water about two centimeters. Be careful not to let the leaves get wet. Change the water every two or three days until the roots grow out, then you can transplant them into the flowerpot.

1. In order to prevent the leaves of Kalanchoe from getting water stains, you can find a hard card and dig a hole in it. The size of the hole should be large enough to fit the Kalanchoe cuttings.

2. Insert the Kalanchoe cuttings into the prepared hole on the card, and then insert them into the water.

3. Change the water every two or three days, and after a period of time, a strong root system will grow out.

4. Prepare loose and breathable soil.

5. Plant the Kalanchoe in the soil, compact it lightly, water it thoroughly, and place it in a cool and ventilated place for a few days, then you can maintain it normally.

Propagation by division

Suitable time: August and September

Propagation by division is a simpler method of propagation than the above methods. You only need to divide the more luxuriantly growing plants into two plants when repotting.
