Root Rot of Heather and Its Control

Root Rot of Heather and Its Control

Heather root rot

When root rot occurs in heather, it first occurs at the root tip of the heather. At the beginning, the root tip will turn brown, and gradually the outer skin will rot and gradually spread upward. In severe cases, the entire root will rot and turn completely black, and the leaves of the plant will also completely wither.

The root rot of heather is caused by fungal infection. If the water quality for watering heather is high in mineralization and pH, the heather will grow poorly, its growth ability will be weak, and the health of the plant will be poor. If you water too much, water will accumulate in the heather pot, resulting in poor drainage and a too closed growth environment. This will easily breed fungi in the flower pots and soil, eventually causing fungal infection and root rot.

Prevention and control methods of heather root rot

First of all, we must carefully disinfect the soil and flower pots where we plant heather. We must promptly discover root rot in heather. In the early stages of root rot, we must promptly replace the planting soil and flower pots and disinfect them in a timely manner. Soak the diseased and cleaned heather plants in a solution prepared with chlorothalonil and fungicide to disinfect them. Generally, soaking for two or three minutes is enough. After this treatment, they can be planted again. When you plant heather again, you should regularly water it with fungicides, which can effectively inhibit bacteria and treat the root rot of heather.
