Basil pests and diseases and their control

Basil diseases and their prevention and treatment

Basil can be attacked by diseases, such as fungal wilt. When basil is attacked by fungal wilt, the pathogen will invade the basil's vascular bundle, causing the basil plant to grow poorly and the leaves to wither and die. These pathogens can usually lurk in the soil for many years. To prevent the disease, it is necessary to regularly change the soil or disinfect the soil to reduce the chance of disease outbreaks. In addition, if the air humidity in the environment where basil grows is too high, the ventilation is poor, or the soil drainage is poor, it will cause pathogens and bacteria to breed, various diseases will occur, and affect growth.

Usually, you should pay attention to more ventilation to ensure that the soil is not waterlogged, and minimize the chance of basil getting disease. Do not use pesticides regularly. Basil is an edible and medicinal plant. Pesticides will have certain residues and will cause harm to the human body. Try to use biological control or safe and green control methods.

Basil Pests and Their Control

Basil is actually not prone to insect pests because basil itself has a special smell, which will drive certain pests away from basil and prevent basil from being harmed. However, basil is still vulnerable to some pests.

Basil is sometimes attacked by pests such as aphids, cutworms, thrips, Japanese beetles, snails, leaf miners and slugs. These pests will have more or less adverse effects on the growth of basil plants.

When basil is attacked by these pests, use artificial or safe homemade pesticides to kill the pests. For example, install some insect-proof nets and use various materials to lure and kill pests. Reduce the use of pesticides and avoid pesticide pollution.
