Disease and Pest Control of Michelia latifolia

Root rot

This type of diseased leaves is always accompanied by stem rot and anthracnose, which is mostly caused by improper use of water and fertilizer. Don’t just water the plants thinking that water and fertilizer are beneficial to growth. Most plants are “watered to death”. The disease can occur over a relatively long period of time, from late April to early July.

Once discovered, the current water and fertilizer plan must be adjusted immediately, the diseased plants must be pulled out and destroyed in time, and then other unaffected plants must be sprayed with pesticides.

Grub

This insect often appears with cutworms, and is most rampant in April and May. They often move underground. If not handled properly, the entire plant will be infested with these insects and eventually die. They are actually the larvae of scarab beetles, which are basically white, but have brown heads. They hide in the soil during the day and come out to do harm around eight or nine at night. It likes to come out most when the temperature is between 13-15℃.

Encountering this kind of insect may be because the drainage is not done properly during rainy days. Once such insects appear, use a certain dose of dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane to control them. You do not need to spray directly, but dig holes around them and water them. This will be more effective.

Scale insects

This small insect is also quite common. It basically appears in May and June. It is difficult to prevent and control. In serious cases, the insects will overlap and attack both leaves and fruits, and may even cause the death of the entire branch or even the entire plant.

You must pay attention to maintenance and management at ordinary times. In autumn, you must brush off the larvae on the branches in time. If the whole plant is dead, in order to prevent its continued spread, you must also destroy the dead plants and prune and ventilate in time.
