Best time to plant strawberries

Strawberries can now be planted all year round, but the best planting time is March and April each year. It takes about three months for strawberries to bloom after planting. After planting strawberries, they need to be given enough fertilizer and water, and appropriately increasing light and growth temperature can help the strawberries bloom early.

Greenhouse planting time: The best planting time for greenhouse strawberries is generally July-August each year, and the maturity period is from late November to March-April of the following year.

Open-air planting time: Open-air strawberries are planted in March and April every year, and the fruit ripens in June and July. After the strawberries are ripe and picked in June and July every year, if they need to be transplanted, they can be planted during this period between summer and autumn. However, the latest sowing time can only be postponed to mid-August.

How to grow strawberries

1. Ridge planting: This is the main method for planting open-field strawberries. The width of the ridge is 60-70 cm, and the length of the ridge can be adapted to local conditions, generally 20-30 meters. Each ridge is planted with 2 rows, with a row spacing of 20 cm and a plant spacing of 12 cm. There are 10,000 seedlings per mu, and a 25-30 cm wide channel is left between the two borders. There are three types of border planting: flat border planting, high border planting, and low border planting. The flat border is the same as the ground. The high border is 10 cm above the ground; the low border is 10 cm below the ground. The characteristics of ridge planting are labor saving, easy covering and cold protection, and easy drainage and irrigation.

2. Ridge planting: It is divided into large ridges and small ridges. The width of the large ridge is 80 cm, and two rows are planted on the ridge platform. The width of the small ridge is 60 cm, and one row is planted on the ridge platform.

3. Strip cultivation : This method is simple to prepare the land, which can be cultivated by ploughing and harrowing. The row spacing of single-row strips is 60-70cm, and the plant spacing is about 20cm. The row spacing of double-row strips is 60-70cm, and 22 rows are planted in a row; the small row spacing is 20-30cm, and the plant spacing is about 20cm. This cultivation method is convenient for mechanical weeding, fertilization and cultivation.

Strawberry planting management precautions

1. Soil disinfection: When planting strawberries, we often neglect soil disinfection. When planting strawberries, we usually use sun-drying to disinfect the soil, that is, prepare the land and dry the soil about a month before planting. Of course, another method is to use lime nitrogen to seal and disinfect with mulch, which is also very effective.

2. Temperature regulation: The temperature of strawberry seedlings is generally controlled between 15-30 degrees; the temperature of strawberry flowering should not be too high, generally around 10-28 degrees; when the strawberry fruit expands, the field temperature should be between 8-25 degrees. Finally, when the strawberries are harvested, the temperature is generally between 10-20 degrees.

3. Plant management: After planting strawberries, we should remove the early flowers on the seedlings and leave the flowers when the seedlings are growing vigorously to protect the fruit. Secondly, we should remove the young runners in time, and remove the yellow leaves, old leaves and diseased leaves on the ground. In addition, the old and weak roots of the strawberries should be pruned to promote the growth of new roots. The last point is to manage the flowering period of strawberries, carry out appropriate flower and fruit thinning, and spray drugs such as Hualeduo to protect the fruit and increase the fruit setting rate.

4. Watering and drainage: Generally speaking, after planting strawberries, we need to water them every ten days or so to ensure that there is enough water in the field, especially when they are flowering. However, it should be noted that there should be no stagnant water in the field, otherwise it will cause root rot and seriously endanger the growth of strawberries.
