Reasons and solutions for the failure of the plant to bloom

White calla lily , also known as smooth sailing , has a beautiful meaning and symbolizes a successful career and life. Many flower lovers will place a pot of anthurium at home, which not only decorates the interior environment but also has good meaning. However, no matter how some friends grow it, it only grows leaves but no flowers. Let’s learn together the reasons and solutions for the Smooth Sailing Plant not blooming.

1. Insufficient seedling age leads to no flowering

For Anthurium to bloom, it usually takes more than 4 years for the seedlings to be grown, and more than 2 years for the division seedlings. If you buy small seedlings, it is normal for them not to bloom.

2. The soil is compacted. It is recommended to replace the potting soil every 2 years.

Failure to change the potting soil for a long time will cause the soil to become compacted, affecting air permeability, which in turn will affect the respiration of the roots and prevent the plant from blooming.

Solution: Replace the potting soil for Anthurium every two years. Choose ready-made planting soil or homemade loose, humus-rich, slightly acidic soil. It is recommended to use a mixture of peat soil, coconut coir and perlite .

3. Insufficient or excessive light

White calla lilies love light, but can also tolerate shade. Long-term lack of light will hinder photosynthesis and affect flower bud differentiation; while direct sunlight may burn the plants, which is also not conducive to flowering.

Solution: Place the anthurium in a place with sufficient diffuse light to ensure that it can carry out sufficient photosynthesis. Provide shade in the summer and full sun in the winter.

4. Unsuitable temperature

Unsuitable environmental temperature, whether too low or too high, will affect the flowering of white anthurium.

Solution: Keep the ambient temperature between 20-28℃. Move the white calla lily indoors in winter to avoid low temperature damage.

5. Improper water control

Anthurium is sensitive to water demand, and water shortage or waterlogging may affect flowering.

Solution: Watering should be timely and sufficient, keeping the soil moist but avoiding waterlogging. During the growing season, keep the potting soil moderately moist, and spray water on the leaves and the surrounding environment frequently to maintain humidity, while maintaining good ventilation.

6. Insufficient nutrients

Long-term lack of fertilizer or excessive fertilizer application may cause the anthurium to fail to bloom.

Solution: Daily fertilization should be mainly compound fertilizer , and fertilization should be applied once every half a month. Before flowering, potassium dihydrogen phosphate can be applied to promote flower bud differentiation, but it needs to be diluted before use to avoid root burn.

7. Lack of pruning leads to internal sealing

Anthurium grows quickly. If it is not pruned in time, the dense inner leaves will affect light and ventilation, thus affecting flowering.

Solution: Regularly trim dense stems and leaves to increase internal ventilation and light transmission, which is conducive to flowering. After the flowers wither, remove the remaining flowers in time to reduce nutrient loss and promote further flowering.

The above are the reasons and treatment methods for Anthurium not blooming. I hope it can help flower lovers solve this problem. If you have other reasons to share, please feel free to add them.
