What to do if the roots of green radish rot in winter

What to do if the roots of green radish rot in winter

1. Prune rotten roots

When you discover that the roots of your green radish have rotted, the first step is to prune it. After taking the plant out of the pot, first clean the soil around the roots with water. This will allow you to better observe root damage and also remove bacteria or fertilizers in the soil. Use sterilized scissors to cut off the rotten parts of the roots, and be careful not to accidentally injure them when pruning. After cutting it off, you can soak it in carbendazim to prevent wound infection.

2. Change pots and soil

After trimming the rotten roots, you need to change the pot and soil and replant. Because the original potting soil may contain bacteria or other bad ingredients, replacing new potting soil can reduce the possibility of recurrence of root rot. Do not add base fertilizer to the soil, because the soil does not absorb much water and fertilizer in winter, and it should be disinfected before use.

3. Increase the temperature

The root rot of green radish in winter is largely due to frostbite, so insulation measures are very important. Generally, there is heating in the north, so the plants can be placed indoors. If the temperature is not high enough, you can cover them with a layer of clinker bag to keep them warm. But it should be opened in a sunny place at noon every day to ensure light and ventilation.

4. Reduce water and stop fertilizing

In winter, the green radish does not consume much nutrients. Frequent fertilization leads to accumulated fertilizer concentration, which is a major cause of root rot. Too much water will cause water accumulation, which will prevent the roots from breathing. Using too cold water will cause frostbite to the roots, which will also lead to root rot. Therefore, in winter, you should reduce watering and stop fertilizing to allow the green radish to slowly go dormant.
