What to do if the hosta roots rot

What to do if the hosta roots rot

Causes of Root Rot in Hosta

In order to solve the problem of root rot, we must know why the roots rot and what causes them. The first reason is overwatering. If the hosta is given too much water, it may not be able to absorb it, causing the roots to be soaked in water for a long time, resulting in root rot.

Another reason is the looseness of the soil. Because the soil is too loose, nutrients are easily lost with the water when watering. The roots cannot get enough nutrients and will rot over time.

Another reason is bacterial infection and harm. The soil for growing hosta may not be disinfected, dead branches and leaves may not be cleaned up in time, and the growing environment may be humid, all of which may lead to the growth of bacteria and cause root rot.

Solution to Hosta Root Rot

Maintenance

Watering should be appropriate and timely. Wait until the soil is dry before watering. Water thoroughly, but avoid waterlogging. In summer, you can increase watering appropriately. Before planting hosta, the soil must be disinfected and dead branches and leaves should be dealt with to provide a good growing environment.

Take flowers and change soil

Take the hosta out of the pot, remove the rotten parts of the roots, place it in a shaded place to dry, and then you can change the soil directly. It is best to use a mixture of culture soil and sandy soil, which has good drainage and can lock in nutrients.

Drug treatment

In summer or when the growing environment of the hosta is relatively humid, spray it with pesticides, just spray fungicides, once every two months. Because it is too late to spray fungicides when the roots of the plant are rotten, it is more advisable to spray in advance.
