What to do if the roots of Cyperus rot

What to do if the roots of Cyperus rot

Analysis of root rot causes

Poor water quality

Cyperus rotundus has high requirements for the water environment. If the water quality is poor and turbid, bacteria will breed in the water, the roots will not get enough nutrients to grow, the roots will have difficulty breathing, and the plant will suffer root rot.

Unsuitable temperature

The most suitable temperature for the growth of Cyperus rotundus is 15~25℃, and the room temperature should be kept between 5~10℃ in winter. When the temperature exceeds this range, plant growth is inhibited, and it is difficult for the leaves to supply nutrients to the roots, affecting root growth. >

Lack of sunlight

Cyperus rotundus prefers a warm, shady and humid environment, but it needs a relatively sufficient environment during its growing period. New plants should be kept in a cool place, but mature plants of Cyperus rotundus need a certain amount of sunlight to grow normally. If they are kept in a dark place for a long time, the plants will grow poorly and the leaves will be dull.

Poor ventilation

Most wild Cyperus rotundus live near water and in well-ventilated places. In home cultivation, they are grown on balconies, windowsills and living rooms. In poorly ventilated conditions, the growth of the leaves is restricted, affecting the growth of the roots.

Improvement Methods

Watering after sun exposure

When watering, tap water should be left for a few days before use to reduce the impact of trace elements in the water on the roots. If weather permits, place the water in the sun for 3 to 4 days.

Ventilate frequently

Place the plant in a well-ventilated area with direct sunlight and some shelter. Try to choose an open balcony or window, open the windows frequently for ventilation, and spray the plants in the living room frequently to increase the air humidity.

Iron supplementation

The growth of Cyperus rotundus requires a certain amount of iron, so the iron content should be appropriately increased when fertilizing. At the same time, apply fertilizer moderately to avoid fertilizer damage caused by excessive fertilization.

Controlling temperature

Ensure a suitable living environment and control the temperature within the range of 15~25℃. Move outdoor potted plants indoors for maintenance in mid-October and control the temperature within 5~10℃.
