Peanuts are the most important agricultural crop in our country. Peanuts have a wide range of uses. They can be eaten and used to extract peanut oil. Peanuts are grown in many regions. So when should peanuts be planted? Let’s learn more about it below. When to plant peanuts? Due to the vast territory of our country, the climate temperature changes from south to north are different, so the peanut planting time is also different in the south and the north. The suitable sowing period for spring and autumn peanuts in the south is mid-February to March, the sowing time for spring and summer peanuts in the Yangtze River Basin is late March to April, and the large peanut areas and peanut production areas in the north generally sow from late April to early May. How to grow peanuts? 1. Prepare seeds If you sow single peanuts, you will need about 12 pounds of peanut kernels per acre. If you sow double peanuts, you will need 18 pounds of seeds per acre. Before sowing, all peanut seeds should be treated with seed dressing agent . 2. Land preparation and ridge making Ridge making can not only increase the thickness of the loose soil layer, which is beneficial to the growth of the root system, but also facilitate drainage in the later rainy season. The height of the leveled ridges is usually about 20 cm. The width of the ridges can be determined according to the planting requirements. The depth of the planting troughs on the ridges can be 5 cm. 3. Amount of base fertilizer The combination of base fertilizer is mainly organic fertilizer and peanut-specific fertilizer. Organic fertilizer can improve the looseness of the soil and promote root growth. One acre of land requires 80 to 100 kilograms of special fertilizer for peanuts and 200 kilograms of organic fertilizer. The base fertilizer should be mixed into the soil during the ridging process to avoid direct contact with germinating seeds, which may cause root burn and seedling death. 4. Seeding density If it is single seed sowing, the interval is 15 cm. If it is double seed sowing, the interval is about 20 cm. The sowing amount of the two methods is also different. After the peanuts are sown, cover them with soil uniformly. The thickness of the soil layer should be 3 to 5 centimeters. It should not be too thick, otherwise it will increase the difficulty of peanut germination. 5. Loosening the soil and weeding When the peanut seedlings grow to one month old, according to the traditional planting method in rural southern China, it is necessary to start loosening the soil manually to facilitate the pods to penetrate the soil layer after flowering, and apply fertilizer at the same time. 30 kilograms of peanut-specific fertilizer are needed per acre. 6. Harvest at the right time When the peanut leaves turn yellow and some of the stems and leaves begin to dry up, they can be harvested, usually in mid-September. That’s it |
