What should I do if I fertilize Cyclamen too much? Can I fertilize during the flowering period?

1. What to do if you apply too much fertilizer

Cyclamen cannot grow without fertilizer, but you must pay attention to the amount applied. If the amount of fertilizer is too much and the plant cannot absorb it, it will easily burn the roots over time and needs to be treated. You can water the pot with clean water as soon as possible to dilute the fertilizer in the soil and let the fertilizer flow out, which can solve the problem of too much fertilizer. If fertilizer damage has already occurred, it is recommended to remove the plant from the pot, change the soil, trim off the rotten roots, and re-pot and maintain it.

2. Fertilization method

Fertilization should be done according to the growth stage. If it is in the peak growing season, you should apply well-rotted and fermented liquid fertilizer once every week to ensure sufficient nutrients and vigorous growth. Moreover, plants can absorb liquid fertilizer better and faster, promoting growth. If it is in the flowering stage, you need to apply fertilizers containing phosphorus and potassium after the flower buds grow. You can choose potassium dihydrogen phosphate and use it to irrigate the roots or spray it on the leaves. It can promote flowering and prolong the flowering period.

3. Can I apply fertilizer during the flowering period?

The flowering period of cyclamen is usually in winter and spring, and no fertilizer should be applied during this period. Applying fertilizer during the flowering period will easily induce new branches. If new branches grow too early, the flowers will wither prematurely and the flowering time will be shortened. Just add fertilizer in time before flowering and after germination. Fertilizing before flowering can promote flowering and provide the nutrients needed during the flowering period. Fertilizing after flowering can replenish nutrients and help it recover.
