Why are the lilac leaves turning yellow?

Reasons why lilac leaves turn yellow

Normal phenomenon

As a woody plant, it will shed its leaves during the dormant period to reduce the loss of its own heat and store energy to safely survive the winter. Therefore, it is normal for the leaves to turn yellow and slowly fall off in late autumn. It is the normal metabolism of the plant.

Yellowing disease

This is a serious problem. Chlorosis is mainly caused by the lack of soluble iron in the soil.

In many areas, the soil contains a lot of carbonates, making the soil alkaline, especially in the northern region, which leads to a decrease in the iron content of the soil; or there is too much rain, causing the iron in the soil to be lost. In this case, the soil is more sticky and the growth activity of the roots will be inhibited, thereby reducing the absorption of iron. Iron deficiency will cause anemia in humans and iron deficiency in plants will affect photosynthesis, leading to reduced nutrient accumulation in the body.

What to do if lilac leaves turn yellow

Improve soil

If the soil for home potted lilac is alkaline, it can be improved appropriately. Try not to plant in alkaline soil, or in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging, otherwise the root system will easily develop poorly and lead to yellowing.

Fertilization for disease resistance

Add fertilizer in time and add some ferrous sulfate to the organic fertilizer to replenish nutrients and increase the acidity of the soil. In addition, organic fertilizers produce organic acids in the process of exerting their fertilizer effects, which can increase the activity of iron and promote plant absorption.

Pour vinegar

When the lilac leaves show slight yellowing, pay attention to improve the soil in time. If there is no professional solution, you can use vinegar or lemon water, dilute it with water, the concentration should be low, and then water it. You can add a little each time you water it.
