What to do if the leaves of Aspidistra turn yellow

What to do if the leaves of Aspidistra turn yellow

Too much light

Aspidistra has broad, green leaves that give people a sense of warmth all the time. This plant is most afraid of direct sunlight. A short exposure to the sun will burn the leaves and affect its ornamental value. If the green leaves in your home turn into a pile of dead grass after being baptized by the sun for a whole day, they will either die of anger or wither!

Solution: You can cultivate Aspidistra in a bright indoor place all year round, but do not place it in direct sunlight, especially next to a window. There is no need to deliberately expose it to the sun.

Too little light

Plants are sometimes strange and it is difficult to guess what they are thinking. It can't be exposed to the sun, nor can it be exposed to the shade. Although Aspidistra is very shade-tolerant, it can grow for several months in a dark environment. But long-term darkness is not conducive to the germination and growth of new leaves. The newly grown leaves are dull and lifeless. Although they will not turn into dead leaves, they do not look very beautiful.

Solution: Aspidistra can be placed in a dark environment, but it is best to move it to a bright environment every once in a while to let it feel the warmth of the sun, which is more conducive to its growth and appreciation. Especially during the period from new leaves growing to maturity, try to keep it in a bright place.

Overwatering

Excessive watering is also one of the reasons why the leaves of Aspidistra turn yellow. Aspidistra likes water, but there is a limit. It will not die even if it is dry for several days. However, excessive watering will affect the respiration of the root system, causing the leaves to turn yellow. It’s like a person who can’t swim is suddenly thrown into the water. He will definitely feel wilted when he comes out!

Solution: Water the Aspidistra when the soil is dry and when the soil is wet. Do not water it too much, but also not too little. It needs sufficient water during the growth period, but it must be ensured that there is no water accumulation.

Too concentrated fertilizer

Aspidistra does not require much fertilizer. It is best to use light fertilizer. Excessive fertilizer can easily cause root burn and destroy the growth of the Aspidistra. The leaves will also turn yellow due to fertilizer damage.

Solution: Do not apply fertilizer too frequently. Apply thin liquid fertilizer once every 15 days to promote the germination and growth of branches and leaves and ensure that the leaves are clear and bright. Be careful not to apply too much fertilizer.

Pest infestation

Aspidistra kept indoors is very prone to red spider mites, which parasitize on the leaves and suck juice, causing the leaves to turn yellow.

Solution: Check both sides of the blades frequently and wipe them with clean water to ensure that they are clean and bright. Once red spider mites are found, spray trichloronate, nisolan and other drugs in time for prevention and control.
