Northern regions: Spring planting is usually carried out from March to April, and autumn planting is from August to September.

Southern Region: Spring planting may start from January to February, and autumn planting from October to November.

What are the common diseases and pests of tomatoes?

Gray mold: When leaves are affected, light green mold spots appear on the back of the leaves. When it is humid, a purple-gray mold layer grows. Light yellow spots appear on the front of the leaves. In severe cases, all the leaves of the plant turn yellow and fall off. The fruits are affected, and circular, hardened, sunken black spots often form around the fruit stem.

Late blight: Dark green to blackish green spots will appear on the leaves after the disease occurs; the spots on the infected stems are brown and slightly sunken; the fruit will develop oil-soaked light brown spots in the early stages of infection, and then become soft and rotten in the later stages. When the humidity is high, the spots may develop a white mold layer.

Early blight: Water-soaked dark green spots initially appear on leaves, which expand into nearly circular shapes with concentric rings. Under humid conditions, black mold grows on the spots.

Powdery mildew: White powder appears on the leaves. In severe cases, the leaves become deformed and turn yellow.

Viral diseases: including mosaic type, fern leaf type and streak type, which affect the growth and development of tomatoes, causing leaf deformation, plant dwarfing, falling flowers and fruits, etc.

Leaf mold: When leaves are affected, light green mildew spots with unclear boundaries appear on the back of the leaves. When it is humid, a purple-gray mildew layer grows. Light yellow spots appear on the front of the leaves, and a mildew layer also grows later.

Canker disease: Necrotic spots appear on the leaves starting from the petioles, which then wilt and die; chlorotic streaks appear on the stems, the vascular bundles turn brown, and holes appear in the pith; wart-like protrusions appear on the fruits.

Bacterial wilt: The diseased plants wilt during the day and recover at night, and the symptoms of the diseased leaves change significantly. The vascular bundles of the diseased stems turn brown. Cut the diseased stems crosswise and squeeze them with your hands, and white bacterial fluid will overflow from the vascular bundles on the cut surface.

Leaf spot disease: In the early stage of the disease, small brown spots appear on the leaves, which then expand into large oval or nearly circular spots. Small black dots grow on the spots and are distributed in a ring-like pattern.

Black spot disease: The fruit is infected, the spots are gray-brown or brown, round to irregular in shape, the diseased part is slightly sunken, with obvious edges, the spots can be connected into large patches, and black mold grows on the surface.

Cotton bollworm: The larvae eat the buds, flowers, and fruits of tomato plants, and also damage the tender stems, leaves, and buds. The main form of damage is fruit boring.

Aphids: They harm tomatoes by sucking sap from the plants and may also spread viral diseases.

In summary, the tomato planting season varies depending on geographical location and climatic conditions, but it is generally divided into two main planting periods: spring and autumn.
