When is the best time to plant rapeseed this year?

Rapeseed, also known as oil cabbage , is mainly used for oil extraction. It is rich in nutrients, including a high content of vitamin C. Rapeseed is grown in many areas of our country. So when is the best time to plant rapeseed this year? Let’s learn more about it below.

When is the best time to plant rapeseed this year?

In my country, rapeseed is divided into winter rapeseed and spring rapeseed. Winter rapeseed is concentrated in the Yangtze River Basin and is generally sown in early September and transplanted in late October. Spring rapeseed is mainly planted in the Northeast and Northwest regions, and is generally sown at the end of April. Generally, spring rapeseed is planted from February to May every year, and winter rapeseed is planted from September to November every year.

How to grow rapeseed?

1. Site selection and land preparation

Rapeseed has a strong adaptability to soil, and the yield of paddy field rapeseed is higher than that of dryland rapeseed. Before sowing, the cultivated soil should be leveled to make a wall about 3 meters wide. If the groundwater level is high, it can be made into a high wall 2 meters wide. The ditch is 30 cm wide and 20-30 cm deep.

2. Planting

In the early stage of sowing, the seeds need to be dried in the sun. Generally, the drying process can be carried out for 2-3 days. According to the wind direction, weeds and other things present in the seeds are removed. Rapeseed seeds are small and can be mixed with fine sand and then sown, or sown with a seeder. The depth is 1-2 cm, which can ensure germination but not be too shallow to be exposed to the sun.

3. Watering

When rapeseed is just planted, it is necessary to water it thoroughly to encourage it to germinate quickly. Later, water the soil in time according to its dryness and wetness to keep the soil slightly moist. You can grab a handful of soil with your hand and squeeze it tightly. If it can form a ball but does not drip water, the soil will naturally fall apart when you loosen it. This level of humidity is in a slightly wet state. In order to safely survive the winter, watering should be carried out before the freezing period to protect the roots of the rapeseed. The water demand of rapeseed increases after flowering, so irrigate immediately to ensure moisture conservation during rapeseed cultivation . If there is rainfall during a period of time, it is easy to cause floods. Irrigation and drainage work should be done well to ensure the normal growth of rapeseed.

4. Fertilization

Appropriate top dressing should be carried out according to the growth of rapeseed and soil fertility. In order to prevent the problem of old seedlings, two top dressings can be carried out during the rapeseed seedling cultivation period. The first top dressing time is when the seedling has one leaf and one bud, and the second top dressing time is when the rapeseed has three leaves and one bud. Take appropriate amount of urea and organic fertilizer for fertilization.

5. Weeding

Weeds can seriously affect rapeseed planting. Therefore, thinning and weeding should be done to prevent weeds from competing for water and nutrients for rapeseed seedlings. There are three main methods of weeding: manual, mechanical and chemical. Currently, chemical weeding is more common. Commonly used herbicides are generally quizalofop-p-ethyl, ethametsulfuron-methyl, etc. After diluting them with clean water, they are sprayed into rapeseed fields to effectively remove weeds.
